Twelve kilometres North of Kumasi on Mampong Road is Ahwiaa, where the famous Ashanti stools and Akuaba"" fertility dolls are produced. At the carving sheds, one can observe craftsmen creating impressive carvings from solid barks of wood. These skilful carvers also produce masks, symbolic figures, bone and ivory beads and walking sticks.
